Glam Duffle

My most excellent hair stylist, Lisa, gave me a hot tip
as she was trimming my locks this weekend.
She had seen a faux-leather tote
in Oprah's Favorite Things list
that was making her "must have" list.
I have to say I agree!

It's a classic overnight duffle
sporting a band of sequins at the bottom,
for that mix/match combo that's so very of-the-moment.
But no need to wait for an overnight.
Why not add a touch of chic to your shlep to
the gym or the yoga studio?
It's glam.
It's kind.
And it's even on sale with the code OPRAH.
Thanks Lisa!

Poems you'll love

I'll been following Tara Sophia Mohr's Wise Living Blog for some time.
She is a life coach, poet and womens' supporter extraordinaire.
She just released her first book of poetry.
I just ordered a copy.
Her poems gently expose powerful
truths about the strength
and magic that lies within
each of us.
It's like peering
into a corner of your soul
you forgot existed.

Truth and consequences

Hey, what a concept...sometimes the bad guys actually lose. Last week this was true of Sparboe Farms - one of the largest and most notorious egg producers in the country.  ABC News  aired an investigation of Sparboe on 20/20 and "World News with Diane Sawyer" and the FDA cited the company for "significant...and serious violations".

As a result of the reports, McDonald's will no longer accept eggs from Sparboe.  McDonald's claims it was not only the serious health concerns but also evidence that there was routine, intentional cruelty to the hens at Sparboe.  I am not a fan of McDonald's, but I applaud them for taking immediate, decisive action when confronted with some ugly facts.  The more people - or corporations - stand up and say "that is not ok", the sooner we will end the cruelest, most unhealthy practices in our food production system.

Equestrian chic

It is pouring down rain outside right now.
And the forecast is for lots more of the same.
I just want to curl up in a cozy sweater and slippers.
But since slippers would be frowned on at work,
I'm going to opt for some boots today to keep my feet warm and dry.

This classic equestrian riding boot is perfect for a day like today.
And better yet, it's 20% off November 22-28
with the code "Thanksgiving".
In fact, everything at Compassion Couture is on sale!
Have a look!
It's hip to be kind.

I heart fedoras

My latest obsession for fall!
A fedora adds a dose of intrigue to your ensemble.
I am more interesting
when I'm wearing a fedora.
At least I think I am.
And confidence can be quite alluring.
I'll tip my hat to that.

Olsenhaus wedges

I'm looking for a pair of mid-height wedges that I can wear to work.
My friend Jan was just in Portland, Oregon
and let me know about a store called
EcoVibe that she happened across.
I looked on their website and found these two great
I'm thinking these might be just a titch too sporty for what
I have in mind for work.
But how perfect would they be
with a big chunky sweater?
And they are 100% vegan.
(p.s. stay tuned for more finds from EcoVibe!)

Stella boots

Oh, the perfection.
Stella McCartney are a work of art!
They are also a small fortune.
But I had to share.
It's fun just to look sometimes!

Amy's Vegan Pizza

Last time I was shopping at the PCC (natural market here in Seattle)
I saw that Amy's now has vegan pizzas!
Perfect for those times
when you're craving a fast,
easy comfort meal.
There are a couple different vegan flavors
and I've seen them at the QFC too,
so keep an eye out for them!
Bon Appetit!

Feeding 7 Billion

There's been a lot of buzz lately about the fact that the global population just hit the 7 billion mark.  The Humane Society's Humane Nation blog just had a great post on this.  I'll share a few highlights here...

  • If we are going to feed billions, we’ve got to think about how we grow food as well as what we eat. Clearly, feeding row crops to animals, whom we then eat, is not nearly as efficient as eating these plants directly.
  • Americans eat more meat per capita–about 220 pounds–than the people of almost any other nation. That’s more than twice as much as the Chinese and 25 times what the Indians eat. We have to ask ourselves whether it is possible to feed a growing world population on such a meat-heavy diet, and whether it is sustainable from an environmental and resource perspective.
  • We Westerners have got to reduce our consumption of meat. And we’ve got to hope that people in the developing world and the newly industrialized world do not start emulating our diet. The spread of intensive egg, meat, and milk production in the developing world is occurring at an alarming rate, and it's a phenomenon we're working to address through our international work.

Guess who's vegan?

Lea Michele!

This Glee star went vegan after
reading the book, "Skinny Bitch"
and now works closely with PETA.

I love my...

...Hunter Wellies!

I was inspired by Janet's recent posts at The Gardener's Cottage
to spread some love for not consuming
"new" items (be sure to check out her thrift store
outfits for less than $10. Sounds impossible,
yet the results are super chic!)

So, I thought I'd "shop my own closet" and share with

you a favorite item that I wear all time
(save for a couple months in the summer)... my Hunter
Wellies boots. I throw them on to go to the dog park,
walk the dog, grocery shop on the weekend - basically anything.
Somehow they manage to make the simplest outfit
look a little more hip and interesting.

I wish I had a picture of me in them in an outfit.
But this is the next best thing...
seeing them in their messy, muddy,
just-took-them-off-on-the-porch perfection.
